Organizing Destination Weddings

DESTINATION WEDDINGS. There are number of options regarding Destination Wedding Save-the-Date announcements. Destination Weddings tend to be smaller and guests are usually close friends and family. However, they will need much more information in terms of travel and hotel accommodations, as well as an itinerary of the events you have planned for them.

In effect, someone needs to take the job of being Travel Arranger and pass that information on to your guests.

You have the option of sending a simple Save-the-Date notice with updates listed on your wedding website or sent out via wedding newsletters OR including some of the details in your wedding invitation packet.

If you have most of the events planned, sites and restaurant reserved, then all the information can be compiled in a save the date booklet. The booklet is usually multiple pages and a very handy (and attractive) package for your guests to keep the information in one place. Also, an extremely personal way to show your guests you care about their convenience and comfort.

Destination Wedding Save the Date Booklet can include:

  • Is this the first your guest has heard of your wedding? A handwritten note on the first page is a sincere gesture on your part. Or, you can tuck the note into the booklet, so it's the first thing they see.
  • Save the Date Announcement. Names, date and place, ending with "Invitation to follow"
  • Itinerary. Number of days, and a brief outline and description of what you have planned for each day.
  • Hotel Information. If possible, list high, midrange and economy options with phone, email and contact information for each.
  • Airline Information. Which airlines fly to your destination? Budget, luxury options.
  • Car Rentals or transport from the airport to the destination.
  • Special information: Will your guests need a visa or inoculations?
  • What to wear? Info about what to expect in terms of weather and local style as well as sports or physical activities.
  • What to Bring? Extra toothpaste, sunblock?

These are just suggestions. If you don't include all this information in the Save-the-Date packet, then you should post on your wedding website, or send updates in wedding newsletters.
