Poetica Designer Diana Huff + Chelsea Clinton Wedding

Only 2 artists create original artwork for Invitesite’s wedding stationery: Scott Rubel and Diana Huff.

Diana Huff is an amazing illustrator. Her drawings are witty, beguiling and romantic. Tiffany, Crane, Bergdoff’s, Glamour Magazine, have all hired her to create illustrations for their products.

Diana painted a fanciful piece of artwork for Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding, which has been all over the TV news. She also painted an original Mazel Tov sign, for Samuel’s of Rhinebeck, also featured. Isn’t the Chelsea + Marc Wedding Painting fabulous??

The painting is hanging in Wing & Clover — and purchased as a gift by one of the Clinton’s guests. It has been featured on both Fox News:

and right at the beginning of CBS [national] Evening News, on Monday nite:

Access Hollywood features Diana’s painting AND Mozel Tov sign (crediting the artist, finally!). (NOTE 8/6/10 – ACCESS HOLLYWOOD has since removed the video from their server.)

And CBS Evening News used the painting and sign again as the lede images on last night’s newscast. How exciting!

Our company is staffed with diehard romantics: which is why we love the book format for wedding invitations so much. So, from our hearts to your hearts, the Storybook Wedding Invitations design:

Storybook Wedding Invitations: Vintage Sand Style

This booklet style is just perfect for romantic, vintage weddings. The cover is diecut, and so are the interior DIY imprintable invite sheets. RSVP card and envelope suite attaches to the interior back cover with vintage style kraft colored photocorners. Chic! Included is the printable label (you would print 4 on a sheet and cut. This size goes through a laser or inkjet perfectly) — and the photo corners for mounting. We do have a 1/2 inch ribbon for binding, if you want a slightly more substantial ribbon. We chose the 1/8th inch, because it reminds us of books from our extensive collections of illustrated books from the 1920′s and earlier.

The storybook cover is made from Italian pearlescent cardstock: sophisticated taupe color with a really lovely surface that is really hard to photograph! This is a super close up – the texture is actually smooth, but the light is bouncing off the subtle pearlized surface:

Amelie Vintage Wedding Invitations : Chic + Sassy!

Sweet on this Cupcake!! We’ve got some new vintage wedding invitations coming out, diecut stacked shapes held together with vintage style ribbon:

More colors and ribbons coming. Amélie is all shiny copper and cream. Meredith, our resident Francophile, chose the ribbon and loves this not-so-girlie yet very feminine shape. She named and put the Amelie Wedding Invitation together. (Merci, Mademoiselle!)

If we print, we can print in a matching copper colored ink. Both the metallic paper and ink are subtle and rich, not garish. Antique hues and French feel. These are budget priced and PERFECT for Vintage DIY weddings. Completely imprintable. How sweet and sassy is that!

Wedding Planning: Lemonade from Lemons

My sister is the ultimate planner. One would think that this sort of organization and forethought comes in handy when planning your big day, but sometimes (most of the time) life happens and gives you an unexpected lemon(s). The first thing we tell our customers when they call panic stricken about a change in venue, date, etc… is to first, breathe, and secondly that it will all work out, usually for the better. What do you say when it’s your own sister?

Lemon #1- A month before my sister’s wedding, and after such careful budgeting and meticulous planning, Melanie’s photographer canceled. Melanie was exhausted from the last minute planning details and could not imagine how she would find an affordable wedding photographer in San Diego that wasn’t already booked. A wedding photographer is so important not only for their talent, but also for their ability to assess the vibe and capture personalities. This is where Rachel Wattson comes in.

Lemonade #1- Rachel is a mother of two and photographer that was recommended to us by our DJ (Dennis from Creative Music DJ’s.) Rachel was such a blessing and a wonderful addition to the wedding. Her ability to be a part of the wedding with out being obtrusive was amazing. My sister really wanted candid pictures that didn’t look too posed or artsy. Lemon #2- Melanie was so focused on her big day, 06-12-2010, that she made her reservations for the rehearsal dinner on her wedding day. Close to thirty hungry family members and friends showed up to Piatti in La Jolla ready to break into some red wine and enjoy some fabulous dipping oils and fresh bread, only to realize that our reservations were for the the next day… And this is where Kasey Avedesian, the Special Events Manager at Piatti comes in.

Lemonade #2- Kasey’s first step was to breathe and take a second to figure out how to turn this situation around. She and her team converted the neighboring breakfast-only restaurant’s courtyard into a private outdoor dining area for our party! Within minutes we were seated at round tables draped in plastic flowered table clothes, drinking wine and enjoying appetizers. The kitchen prepared our special pre-planned menu while cooking up amazing Italian dishes for a packed restaurant… no easy task. We were able to move around and be as loud as we pleased. Toward the main entree, Melanie was already agreeing that her mistake created an even better memory than could have been imagined. Yet another blessing in disguise!

Moral of the story… my sister is the perfect example of what we tell our customers, things always work out for the best. The details might change (ie: plastic flowered table cloths vs starched white table cloths) but the important things are the memories created and no planning or lack of planning can ruin that.

La Vie en Rose

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is how to love and be loved in return!

What better way to mix some old world fun with a bit of the risqué, than with a Moulin Rouge themed bridal shower? My eldest sister and I recently planned a fabulous bridal shower for our wonderful sister, Melanie. Being two foodies, we first thought about what kind of food we wanted to serve and went from there. We wanted to be sure to create a mood that was laid back and also lively.

Our first stop… the fabric district of downtown LA where we stocked up on tulle and feathers. In the fashion district we were able to find affordable boas and fans for the guests to help get them in character. These decorations were super cheap because they are sold as wholesale and if you’re feeling really bold , you can even haggle with prices (I left this to my older-lawyer sister.) We used purple Indian rag recycled paper to make individual placemats that pulled out the gorgeous colors in the feathers. Because we live in LA and the weather is always sunny, we had the celebration outside. We draped tulle over the banquet tables and on the backside of the house to hide the not-so-pretty laundry area. Guests were asked to bring a pair of fun underwear unwrapped. These served useful not only to the bride-to-be, but also as decoration. All the underwear was draped from the lights using clothespins to give a little burlesque feel. We stuffed feathers and tulle in art deco looking vases that were on sale from Pier One to give some dimension to the table decor.

A Moulin Rouge party isn’t complete with out enjoying some gourmet French food while listening to Edith Piaf sing about Paris and love. The Francophile that I am, I made a simple chicken dish with herbes de provence, served it over linguini, and paired it with some red wine from a local winery, Carina Cellars (available at Whole Foods.) I learned how to make this dish years ago while working for a catering company, so I knew that it would be great for a larger group. Plus, if you say it’s French… it already wows guests as gourmet with out any effort. For dessert we bought a couple of small cakes from Whole Foods to give the guests options and to create a lovely spread of sweets.

While my sister is incredibly easy going, she did put in one request… no “typical” bridal shower activities. I found this to be the toughest part of the planning process. Amy, the maid of honor, came up with a 20 questions activity that got all the guests laughing.

She asked Tim, my sisters high school sweetheart and fiance, various questions about Melanie and their 12 years of dating. We all had to guess how many Tim got correct. Going over the questions and Tim’s answers was a riot after hearing Melanie’s own interpretation of the questions… facts can get a little bit fuzzy after so many years!

Another bridesmaid had a great idea to make individual cards for each guest that had a quote about love written on the front. Each guest could write a personal message to the bride and check on the envelope if she was to open the card before or after the ceremony. The cards were put into a decorated cardboard shoe box to keep them together.

Picking a theme for a bridal shower is a great way to get started on what kinds of decorations and food will bring life to the party. Or, if you’re anything like my sisters and I, let the food inspire you first!

This paper cover for this wedding program is beautiful. We used it with a handmade paper from Korea for an eco invitation. Then, our supplier stopped making paper in Korea.
