The printer does not accept the paper size.

This is happening more lately with newer all-in-one printers. Sometimes our ‘cheat’ templates work as a solution for this, but more likely, you need to make one adjustment to your printer driver software. It’s an adjustment we cannot send you in the template.

Paper is too thick/stiff

Use the hand-feed option.

Your printer most likely has a back door. Opening this will straighten out your paper path and allow thicker papers to pass.

Your printer driver software has paper type and thickness settings. There are thousands of printers, so we cannot be specific, but when you tell it to print, look for a button for “properties.” Somewhere in there you should find a drop-down menu for different thicknesses of paper and envelopes. These settings will help your printer accept thicker papers, and may also help with quality, if that is suffering.

Some simpler inkjet printers have a lever or knob on one side that sets it to thick and thin. The lever may simply have a plus (+) or minus (-) sign on it.

The printer doesn’t seem to be grabbing the paper quick enough.

Don’t be afraid to apply light pressure to the back edge of the paper to help your printer pick it up. This can happen with our pearlescent papers as they have a slicker surface making it more difficult for the rollers to pick up. Slipping rollers could cause your type to register incorrectly.

The paper is picking up roller marks.

This can happen especially with older printers. One thing that can solve this is the same as above, apply light pressure to the back edge of the paper to help your printer take the paper up. Sometimes this happens because the rollers are aging and glazed. We cannot fix this and you have to try another printer.

The toner or ink is sticking to the back of the card on top of it and chipping off.

If this is a laser writer, this could be happening because stacking the paper immediately can retain the very high heat from your laser writer and the toner is transferring through heat.

If this is an inkjet it is because the paper is not absorbing ink quickly enough.

In either case, do not stack your paper immediately Spread it out for a few minutes and test it before stacking.

Can a commercial printer do this for me?

You can take your job to a commercial printer, but you’re better off having us print for you. Copy centers usually won’t want to touch a paper they don’t have experience with. You may have better luck with an offset or local job printer (NOT A PHOTOCOPY SHOP). The only problem is that they may want more overage (extra paper for waste) than the standard 10% we supplied you. If you have us print for you, it is less complicated and any errors happen in house and you only see the final product as you want it without being in the middle between us and your printer.

Can my new color laser handle the thick paper? It seems to have trouble.

This is a new problem for us. As color lasers become less expensive, more people have access to them and many of them do not seem to handle our thickest papers. When you get a sample, test it in your hand-feed.

My printer does not accept the custom sizes of your templates.

This is rare, but has been occurring lately, especially with some all-in-one printers hooked to system Apple computers. The work around to this is for me to send you a special template made to trick your printer into thinking it is printing on standard size paper. Just e-mail me.

All programs are in a folded paper format. When you fold a sheet of paper once, it gives you four pages. Often you will only want to print your information on one side, which is two pages of information, your Wedding Party on the left and your Ceremony information on the right. If you print two sides (four pages) you would want a title page printed on the front and your personal notes or a thank you on the back. When there is too much information to fit, you will have to add another sheet, giving you eight pages.

When you have eight or more pages, it can be confusing keeping your layout straight. When you are having InviteSite print for you, there is no worry about this, but when you are printing yourself, use this trick as your guide. Take two or more sheets of scrap paper and fold them together. Then, number each panel and you will have a physical reference as to how your pages must relate to one another in your layout. Below is an illustration of a two-sheet program layout.

Wedding Programs don’t have to be stacked up in a corner or piled in your attendants’ arms, as they wait for your guests to arrive. Why not display your programs in an attractive arrangement, or have a program waiting for your guests on each chair?

Some Wedding Program Ideas:

Church Ceremony: If you are getting married in a church or other house of worship, it’s probably best to stay within your religious tradition. You can have your attendants hand out the programs from a lovely basket or table display near the entrance.

Garden Ceremony. We love draping each guests’ chair with a program and a paper cone filled with flower petals or rice.

Beach Wedding: Add some weight to each program (in case those sea breezes pick up) by adding seashells to the ribbon tassels, decorate with seagrass and tie to each chair with raffia.

Loft Wedding: Order a mix of colors and ribbons. (especially great with our Fuschia and Flame square programs). Display on guest sign-in table..

All of Invitesite Wedding and Ceremony Programs are designed, fabricated and printed in Pasadena CA by the Invitesite creative team.

The wedding program often serves as a first and last impression for wedding guests; for many guests, the wedding program is not only the first thing they see but often the lasting keepsake of the day. Your wedding program should serve as a guide for your guests while also reflecting the stylistic and thematic elements of your wedding day.

A wedding program is more than just an ad-hoc fan on a hot day, it’s an important informational tool and a meaningful memento. Good wedding program wording is essential to a meaningful and well-organized ceremony program. To see an example of one customer’s wording, download this sample of a four part program.

The Wedding Program Cover

The cover of your wedding program, or ceremony program, often includes the names of the bride and groom, the date and location of their wedding day and, often, a special quote or sentiment important to the couple. With InviteSite programs, many designs are wrapped in a paper that cannot be printed on (except for letterpress). In this case the beauty of the paper holds it own, while the text you would think of as the cover text actually goes on the first page inside (under the wrap or cover).

For some couples, the cover of the wedding program can also be a great place for a special photograph or original artwork. Be it a formal cover format or an artistic display of your imagination and creativity, the cover of your wedding program can set the tone for your big day.

Wedding Program Wording

The core of your wedding program should outline the order of the ceremony and introduce your wedding party, orienting wedding guests to your ceremony and to its participants. The wedding program wording should include the names of those in your wedding party and their relationship to the bride and/or groom.

For many of your wedding guests, the wedding program is their first introduction to the best man, the maid of honor, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and any other members of the wedding party and family. Not only do these introductions familiarize wedding guests with members of the wedding party, they can also spare members of the wedding party from having to repetitively explain their relationship to the bride and groom.

The wedding program is the perfect place to share poems, prayers, meaningful quotes, special stories, or family remembrances. In addition, the wedding program is a great place to print your wedding vows. You’ve likely spent considerable time and energy crafting the perfect wedding vows; printing them in your wedding program can be the ideal way to share your unique sentiments with your family and closest friends.

Of course, for many guests your wedding program will provide a valuable outline for the ceremony. Your wedding program wording can help to ensure that your program is organized similarly to your ceremony and allow guests to easily follow along and, ideally, prevent guests from needing to shuffle through pages during the most important parts of your ceremony.

At InviteSite, we’re here to help you put together the perfect wedding program. We can help you not only with your wedding program layout but also with your wedding program wording. Contact us and let us show you how to build the best wedding program possible.

Important Layout Tip for Programs

Almost all programs are a folded paper format. In folding a sheet of paper once, you create four pages. Often you will only want to print your information on one side, which is two pages of information, your Wedding Party on the right and your Ceremony information on the left. It’s okay to leave the first and last pages blank.

Then number each panel and you will have a physical reference as to how your pages must relate to one another in your layout. Below is an illustration of a two-sheet program layout.

What are the “green” choices for wedding programs?

If you want to lessen the footprint of your wedding, there are a number of ways to go and a few things to think over.

First, decide if you want your ceremony programs to be keepsakes or if you expect your guests to throw them away or recycle them.

If you want to honor family members and special people in your wedding party, then you may want your program to be a memento or keepsake. You many want to consider using ARCHIVAL paper: choose a cotton rag, mulberry or lokta paper program. These papers will last unchanged, in a drawer or an album for hundreds of years. We have seen programs with original poetry and artwork, embellished with special crafts made by the couple or memorializing a deceased family member.

If you want your programs to be a simple Order of Ceremony, list of the wedding party, your names and the date, then you might want to choose 100% post consumer recycled papers with a treefree paper cover. Even though these papers are acid free, they will not stand the test of time. They typically last 20 to 50 years in a preserved setting (album or memento box).

You could also use our plantable wedding programs. Your guests can plant the program and be rewarded with flowers months later.
