Save The Date Ideas: Organizing Modern Weddings

The style of your wedding will drive your save the date design. Your guests may need a packet of detailed information or a simple "heads up" that the two of you are tying the knot.

Wedding invitations are mailed out 6 - 8 weeks before the wedding - not enough notice for guests with complicated, busy lifestyles. Many of your guests may be traveling to be with you - they need time to book hotels, buy tickets and make personal arrangements for the responsibilities they leave behind. Here is a list of save the date ideas based on the type of wedding you are planning.

Summer Weddings

Even if most of your friends and family are local, summer is wedding season. Send out a simple save-the-date card 6-8 months in advance. Don't forget to include "Invitation to Follow" at the bottom of the announcement. We've been told some guests have confused the save-the-date for the wedding invitation - especially if it looks nice!

Destination Weddings

There are a number of options regarding destination wedding save the date announcements. Destination weddings tend to be smaller and guests are usually close friends and family. However, they will need much more information in terms of travel and hotel accommodations, as well as an itinerary of the events you have planned for them.

Weekend Weddings

Weekend weddings are similar to destination weddings because you'll have a number of events spread out over a few days. You have the option of sending a simple save-the-date card with updates listed on your wedding website or sent out via wedding newsletter. If you do have most of the events planned, sites and restaurants reserved, then all the information can be compiled in a save the date booklet. The booklet is usually multiple pages and a very handy (and attractive) package so your guests can keep the information in one place. It's an extremely personal way to show your guests you care about their convenience and comfort.

Local Wedding But Many Of Your Guests Are Travelling

If a percentage of your guests are traveling from other states or countries, then you may consider sending them an additional packet of information with the save the date card. You can include hotel, airline, car rental, weather conditions and contact information. You may also think about including them as guests to the rehearsal dinner and other events around the day of your wedding.

Holiday Weddings

Weddings near holidays or common vacation times require special consideration. A simple save-the-date card allows your guests to plan appropriately.
